Hey all. I was in my Punto today and the steering seemed a little stiffer than usual. As in it seemed to take a little more effort to turn the wheel. My dad is convinced that there is some fluid resevoir under the bonnet but I dont think there is Any way I can check this? Yes! Changing your power steering fluid at home is an easy way to save on labor costs. Just find the 2008 Mercury Mariner power steering fluid location, remove the reservoir cap, drain the reservoir with a pump, refill it with new fluid, and pop the cap back on!
The power steering fluid reservoir will typically have a symbol of a steering wheel on the cap. Likewise, if your Punto has electric power steering, you may see a steering wheel picture with an explanation point next to it on your dashboard to indicate power steering problems.
Power steering fluid leaks are usually caused by a cracked or worn-out hose that feeds the power steering pump. Also give the hose clamps and other connections a careful inspection. If the hoses and clamps check out OK, move on to the power steering pump. The entire power steering rack should also receive your attention. .
