Long Live the Queen is mostly considered the easiest campaign, but you need to attack relatively early or otherwise they might outbuild your army since they always start with more towns. My personal favourite for learning was Spoils of War (Fortress/Stronghold campaign) - because if you want, you can take plenty of time to build up your towns

I love homm 2 & 3. The main campaign in 2 was a lot easier than 3. The magic system in 3 has more spells and is a little more complex. I have a soft spot for the 2d pixel graphics of 2 also. I think 2 is perfect for beginners but if you wanna get into online play fast maybe get started on 3 instead. They're both similar and great games

One of Might and Magic III's strong points is its non-linearity: You can do just about anything at any time. Sometimes before you can go into a certain dungeon you'll need to find a key, but that's about the only thing that limits your options. Since the game is so non-linear, a step-by-step walkthrough of the game is pretty much impossible
Don't know if I can link it here, but there is a short YouTube series by a guy named TheKnownWorld that teaches some of the basics. Mostly though IMO it's a game that you just have to learn by playing it a lot and exploring and trying out everything you can, because there is too much detail to be covered in a simple guide.

In my opinion, first three games is the very essence of "Heroes of Might and Magic" games. I'd say start with those. Games are simple enough . You should be able to just start playing them without tutorials. You'll learn as you go. Games have informative manuals as well, where basics are well enough explained. Gem's Campaign This guide is for the first Shadow of Death campaign. I will assume you are familiar with the general gameplay, strategies and units of Heroes of Might and Magic 3, and I will not tell you to do basic things like flag mines, etc, and I also won't tell you what units you need to deal with the wandering monsters on the map.
